Jak Turns up the heat

Round 11 Match Report

(Summary)

Senior Men overcome De La hoodoo,

Womens team make it 11 straight,

U19s prove too strong for Blacks at U19s carnival

Thirds retain top spot.

It’s been a hell of a long time since a BFC Senior Mens team has won at De La Salle. For some, too long to even contemplate. However, on Saturday, that demon stat was shut down with our Seniors defeating a resilient and tough De La in a ‘down to the wire’ contest.

In many ways it was about the wind. Up until half time the 2 teams combined had kicked 1 goal into the wind. Facing the wind in the 3rd quarter our boys kicked 3 vital goals, which gave us a 6 point buffer going with the wind in the final Qtr. It was enough to seal the win.

The game was also about the amazing performance of one individual – Jak Nardino. It was one of those games that will be talked about for long time. It was simply incredible. Playing mostly off half back, Jak used his explosive speed and power to not only tantalise the opposition, but everyone who saw the game. He kicked two really important goals at crucial times in the game, his 2nd in the 4th Qtr, a powerful roost from outside the arc at top speed.

There were also some other top performances, notably Matt Petering who pulled a game from his career textbook. His effort was outstanding. Other notable contributors included Chopper Heath (2 goals), Cal Linehan, Riley Virtue, James Taylor, Lewis Diggins, Josh Ward and Sam Gibbins (2 goals).

Some of the high marks taken were outstanding.

Congrats to Nick Wall who played his first Senior game. Well done Nick!

The Reserves let one off the hook on Saturday going down by a meagre 8 points after leading by 17 points at ¾ Qtr time. Best players included Dawit McNeish, Nat Bazzani, Bassirou Faye and Sean Coote.

It was an early start for the womens team vs Old Trinity at Bulleen, but similar to last week the girls attacked the contest from the first bounce with excellent ball move movement that resulted in a strong opening opening quarter with 3 well worked goals. Skipper Sammy Basis was back in the side along with Steph Warmuz & Holly Tysoe (2 goals).

Sienna Tedde dominated the ruck again whilst Sarah Collins joined the back six with a strong performance. Rosie Byrne stepped into the centre and continued her stellar season.

Sam McLean delivered another strong performance up forward with 3 goals. Once again it was a great team effort by all.

At the VAFA Under 19s Carnival on Sunday our boys played superb wet weather footy to defeat Uni Blacks on the smaller of the two grounds at Elsternwick Park. It was a tough and at times a fiery game; the score line not a true indication of the games intensity. However, a dominant final quarter saw the Sharks run out comfortable winners.

The team welcomed two players up from the U17s, Calsher Dear and Charlie Bruce. Both guys performed really well, Charlie kicking 2 goals and Calsher playing a strong support role in the ruck and up forward.

Co-Captain Jayden Rodwell (3 goals) continued his good form and it was great to see Will Lambert (3 goals) also in fine touch. Other good players included Gabe Finnegan, Angus Newman and Will Skinner.

The Thirds held their spot on top of the ladder with a 10 goal win away to Marcellin. Matt Dickinson kicked another 3 goals and was well supported by Ben Earney, Shaun Evans and Luke Kemelfield all of whom kicked 2 goals.

Best players included Fraser Johns, Angus Rowe, Dickinson, Jack Murphy and Nick De Bruin.
