Unsung Hero Wins BFC Woman of the Year

On Saturday August 4, the Beaumaris Football Club hosted its 6th Annual Ladies Lunch and what an afternoon it was for 'Woman of the Year' Jane Lapa.

In keeping with tradition this award is given to someone who makes a significant contribution to the football club and in this respect there is no one more deserving that Jane.

For many years Jane has been Team Manager, Committee Member and most importantly and for as long as most people can remember, the club's property manager, a role that rarely gets the kudos it deserves. Because of this Jane has been an unsung hero around the club. But no longer - Jane Lapa is a deserved recipient of the Woman of the Year award.

In total 242 Mums, Grandmothers, supporters and friends of the Beaumaris Football Club gathered to celebrate the amazing contribution women make to the club and to our wider community.

The theme for the day was community and Juniors President Nicki Spencer congratulated all the women in the room for supporting each other both in football and in life, in good and bad times.

The Beaumaris Football Club partnered the day with the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation to assist in its efforts to raise awareness and funds for research into paediatric brain cancer.

Liz Dawes, CEO of the charity, and mum to Connor, in whose memory the foundation was established, spoke to the ladies about her journey, as Connor battled brain cancer. Her address was uplifting and inspiring and demonstrated the amazing resilience of a family in grief to turn such a life changing event into a positive outcome for the many people and families the RCD Foundation assists.

The Club would like to acknowledge the efforts of Krisy McKinnon and Lee Young who managed a flawless event and to the Sandringham Yacht Club for their amazing venue.
